Critical Items to Have on Hand for your Cat
Prices can vary greatly depending on whether you get a manual, auto or Wi-Fi dispensing product. Some cats get territorial about their meals so monitor your cats before committing to a shared feeder (split auto feeder).
No need to go crazy here but there are lots of options. Most important to remember is low risk for bacteria, good filters, sizeable water holder, and easy to clean. The perfect situation is one that is hooked up to your faucet for them to use on demand. AquaPurr is an awesome product available on Etsy and now on Amazon but it is spendy. We also like this one for around $20 but it requires regular filling and cleaning.
For kittens high protein and high calories is important for ideal brain and body growth. Note that high protein does not mean wet food. You are best off reading the labels for crude protein content and fillers. You want little or no fillers, high protein and real ingredients with no grains. Our kittens start off on Royal Canin Mother and Baby, move to Royal Canin Kitten and then I mix Purina One Plus Kitten into it so they can eventually move to Purina One PluIndoor Advantage at the age of One.
I love the Greenies brand for cats and they all seem to love them too. I also look for soft treats but stay away from wet treats due to risk for upset tummies.
Critical Items to Have on Hand for your Cat
Prices will vary based on functionality, style, looks and whether it is manual or automatic. We love the automatic cleaners but they are a financial commitment. If you can swing it...you should!
Whether you have a manual or automatic litter box, a litter scooper is critical to scraping, sifting and spot clean outs. I have more than one and we prefer the stainless steel.
No matter how you dice it, litter is messy. It tracks (despite ads telling you it doesn't). It smells (even when they say it won't). We use the grass seed for our kittens learning to use the box and move them over to clumping clay. ALL CLAY LITTERS (And some natural) CREATE DUST. if they say it doesn't, they are not truthful. We use the clay because it works best with the robotic litter boxes and for multi-cat households.
Great for odor management, and sprinkling in your litter.
We love the litter mats that have holes and trap the litter but allow you to dump the litter. The bigger the better. Cats can be unpredictable and some will leap out of the box rather than step, flinging litter everywhere!
For all the loose litter and clean ups. It is nice to have a designated broom and pan so you aren't spreading litter germs elsewhere.
Another great tool for getting litter out of hard to reach places, carpets, mats, etc.
